A full evening of entertainment and activities will get a creative kick-off with the Grand Opening of Minot Artspace Lofts on June 27. Celebrating this new development in the center of the city, the Grand Opening program will start at 3:00 p.m. with entertainment by Minot musicians Echo’s Answer followed by brief remarks from elected officials, community leaders, and Artspace representatives. Refreshments will be on hand from local favorites DeLisimo Café, Sweet & Flour Patisserie, and Souris River Brewing. Following the program the public is invited to spend the evening touring the artists’ Open Studios; giving guests the opportunity to meet area artists and experience their work and space. The Children’s Music Academy will also hold their Grand Opening that evening, featuring live music from student performers. In addition, the Wine Walk will start at 5:00 pm and feature wine tasting, live music and entertainment.

“The community was extremely instrumental in bringing the Minot Artspace Lofts to fruition,” said Artspace President Kelley Lindquist. “We are grateful for the tremendous support. What better way to celebrate this project’s success than as a kick-off to a night rich with art and activities in the heart of the city.”

Located at the corner of Central and Main in downtown Minot, the $9.4 million project is home to area artists and their families, as well as local arts organizations. It is the first new building in downtown Minot in more than 30 years, bringing affordable housing and renewed vitality to the city center.

“Having affordable housing options for all its residents is essential for Minot’s continued recovery from the 2011 flood and for the community to have healthy economic growth,” said Jolene Kline, North Dakota Housing Finance Agency executive director. The state agency administers the Housing Incentive Fund and Low Income Housing Tax Credit programs that provided more than $5.9 million in development support to Minot Artspace Lofts.

The four-story, 34-unit building includes a gallery operated by the Turtle Mountain Tribal Arts Association for the exhibition and sale of works by Chippewa, Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara and Sioux artists, including regalia, beadwork, quillwork and baskets. The Children’s Music Academy of Minot, located on the first floor specializes in quality music education benefiting thousands of young children. It is also home to the Minot Area Council of the Arts.

The Minot Artspace Lofts Grand Opening, and other activities in the building that evening, will be free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by National Equity FundTM and Wells Fargo.
