So many times I’ve talked about our partnership with you in moving housing forward in North Dakota. This isn’t mere talk – we rely on the input of North Dakotans and those we do business with to shape the policies which help fulfill our mission and vision for housing all North Dakotans.

North Dakota Housing Finance Agency is looking for feedback on our annual allocation plan for the federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. For years before the Housing Incentive Fund came along, LIHTC was THE affordable housing development program in North Dakota and across the country. Since LIHTC began in 1987, more than 6,600 housing units have been created or rehabilitated in the state. Making sure we put the right housing in the right place is where the allocation plan comes in. The draft plan is available on our website and we will be holding a public hearing at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6, at our office in Bismarck.

At 11 a.m., we will be holding a public hearing on the allocation plan for the brand new National Housing Trust Fund program. The National Housing Trust Fund is funded by an assessment on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The federal program is designed to help the lowest income households and will be targeted completely to Extremely Low Income households (below 30 percent of Area Median Income). The draft plan for the National Housing Trust Fund is also available on our website and we hope that you will provide your input on this plan as well.

While NDHFA administers these programs, they really belong to you. The allocation plans for them are your plans. They reflect your needs, your vision and your priorities. We work very hard every day to be good stewards of these programs and we want them to be useful resources in developing affordable housing options. We can’t do that in a vacuum. We need your input. I hope that you will be able to join us on May 6, but if you can’t, we still want to know your thoughts.

As always, thank you for being engaged and supportive partners to NDHFA. Your participation really does make a difference in the lives of thousands of families in North Dakota!
