Jeremiah Program Fargo-Moorhead Receives $2.2 Million Project Award from North Dakota Housing Incentive Fund

Jeremiah(Fargo, ND–Moorhead, MN — July 14, 2015) — Jeremiah Program Fargo-Moorhead has been awarded $2.2 million from the North Dakota Housing Incentive Fund to help build a permanent campus for low-income single mothers and their children in Fargo.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to leverage this source of funding,” said Diane Solinger, Executive Director of Jeremiah in Fargo-Moorhead. “It is providing a major boost in our efforts to build a campus by 2017 that will serve young mothers who are determined to change the trajectory of their lives.”

The Housing Incentive Fund (HIF) supports the development of affordable multifamily housing. Jeremiah’s project is one of 24 projects that received financial awards from North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) this month. The agency administers the HIF program.

Projects that receive awards from NDHFA are required to help capitalize the fund. Jeremiah must raise $1.89 million of the $2.2 million awarded, and Solinger says that the organization has already secured $1.2 million in pledges toward that goal. Jeremiah leaders hope to secure the remaining funds by the end of 2015 so that the project can begin construction next spring.

The Jeremiah campus in Fargo will provide safe and affordable housing, an on-site early childhood education center, and individualized support for helping women get into and through career-track college degree programs. The program serves low-income single mothers with children under the age of five. Currently, more than 2,300 single mothers are living in poverty in the Fargo-Moorhead area, a number that has increased 16 percent over the last six years. The majority of these mothers have children under the age of four.

Individuals and businesses with a North Dakota state income tax liability that make contributions on Jeremiah’s behalf will receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. More information on how to make a HIF contribution to support Jeremiah’ project is available online at www.ndhousingincentivefund.org.
