As has been said in this space many times before, affordable housing is complicated and it takes many hands to be successful. The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) is proud to stand beside a whole host of partners to help address the challenges that come with building housing in a complex environment. We’re even more proud to see the achievements of our allies in breaking through and turning challenges into opportunities.
Often that process begins with more knowledge. NDHFA has become very involved in a number of collaborative efforts because there is a greater recognition that housing is a vital part of the economic picture…whether it is for workforce, families, seniors or people with special needs. We welcome the opportunity and are appreciative to be brought to the table.
NDHFA staff has participated in several efforts surrounding housing in the past year. There have been regional roundtable meetings taking place across the state which have drawn together a variety of stakeholders to talk about needs of people with disabilities. We have worked with Vision West on their strategic planning for western North Dakota. We continue to be highly involved in the Coalition for Homeless People and leading the Interagency Council on Homelessness. And we have presented information on housing to many different entities.
We don’t just participate because we enjoy meetings; we do it because we get something out of it. By collaborating with non-traditional partners, we gain a better understanding of how we can use our resources to further help people. Hopefully we also bring another perspective in why a place to live is so important and what it takes to make it happen.
A spirit of cooperation is part of what makes North Dakota so special. We understand and recognize that we don’t have all the answers and can’t do everything on our own. We need others and they need us to succeed. By building cross-cultural competency, we all get stronger and it is our communities and our residents that benefit the most.
Good ideas come from everywhere so if you have thoughts for us, we’re always open to having a discussion. Let us know how we can be a better partner for you!
