BOWMAN, ND – State and community leaders today said completion of The Landing, a Lutheran Social Services Housing development in Bowman, will provide more housing choices for individuals and families as well as affordable independent living for people with disabilities who receive services from ABLE Inc.
“As our state and economy grows, it is important that we continue to build the infrastructure necessary to sustain that growth and to ensure that quality, affordable housing is available for all North Dakotans,” said Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley, who attended today’s celebration on behalf of the North Dakota Industrial Commission. “This project is a great example of how the private and public sectors can work together to make valuable investments in our communities. I applaud Lutheran Social Services and the local residents and businesses that made this project a reality for Bowman.”
The Landing received more than $2.4 million in development assistance from the state, allowing the new apartments to rent at affordable levels. North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) made a Housing Incentive Fund commitment to the project that was strongly supported by the community. The project also received assistance from NDHFA through the federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program and an interest rate buy-down through Bank of North Dakota’s (BND) FlexPACE Affordable Housing Program. Additional partners in the project included Dakota Western Bank and Agribank.
“It can be challenging for people living on fixed incomes in energy-impacted areas to find quality housing options,” said Jolene Kline, NDHFA executive director. “Developments like The Landing ensure that all households can live comfortably in the community they call home.”
Located at 14 3rd Ave SE in Bowman, The Landing has six one-bedroom, fourteen two-bedroom and six three-bedroom units. The three-story complex is designed to be accessible to the elderly and persons with disabilities and incorporates “green technology” to the greatest extent practical. More information about the property is available from Lutheran Social Services Housing at (701) 271-3207 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
“Lutheran Social Services’ focus is on creating affordable housing for rural communities,” said John Phillips, a real estate development specialist for the nonprofit. “We are very pleased with the support The Landing received from the state and the community.”
Lutheran Social Services Housing Inc., a program of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota, supports the continued vitality of the state’s smaller communities by providing nonprofit affordable housing and housing-related services, with more than 20 rental housing projects currently completed and/or under management and several additional projects in various stages of development.
A self-supporting agency, NDHFA finances the creation and rehabilitation of affordable housing across North Dakota. The Industrial Commission of North Dakota, consisting of Governor Jack Dalrymple as chairman, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, oversees NDHFA and BND. More information about NDHFA is available online at www.ndhfa.org or by calling 800-292-8621.
