BISMARCK, ND – Grants are available from North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA) to make accessibility improvements to properties occupied by individuals with physical disabilities.
“NDHFA’s Rehab Accessibility Program (RAP) offers an affordable solution for disabled households, many of whom are elderly, to remove physical barriers and turn their house into a safe and comfortable home,” said Jolene Kline, NDHFA acting executive director.
Recipients of the grant dollars can earn no more than 80 percent of area median income, which varies by county. The maximum qualifying income for a single individual in Burleigh/Morton County is approximately $42,000 per year.
Eligible improvements include the installation of wheelchair ramps, door levers, walk-in/roll-in showers or grab bars, and widening of doorways. The funds can be used to upgrade either single- or multi-family housing units. The improvements made must address the accessibility needs of the disabled household member.
A maximum of $4,000 may be awarded with a limit of one grant per property in a fiscal year. Matching funds of at least 25 percent of the total project cost are required.
